(Barrie, ON – April 28, 2025) The IOOF Seniors Homes has announced that they have been accepted as a Best Practice Spotlight Organization (BPSO), pre-designated by the Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario (RNAO). Launched in 2014, the Best Practice Spotlight program is a knowledge-based approach aimed at improving health outcomes for individuals, organizations, and healthcare systems through systematic implementation of evidence-based Best Practice Guidelines.

The IOOF will work collaboratively with RNAO for a three-year pre-designate period, and during this time, best practices will be implemented, evaluated, and sustained. Once all deliverables are met, the IOOF will receive the Best Practice Spotlight Organization Long-Term Care designate status.

“The IOOF care team is focused on creating an environment where evidence-based practices are the norm, and we are on the forefront of cultivating a new generation of nurses. We aspire to continue being a community leader in long-term care, and as a Best Practice Spotlight Organization we have an opportunity to help other organizations with developing guidelines through sharing implementation experiences and our journey,” said Jane Walker, Assistant Director of Resident Care, Clinical Lead & BPSO Co-Lead, IOOF Seniors Homes.

The IOOF joined the RNAO Clinical Pathways Program, where ‘pathways’ in care are digitized and tailored to the long-term care sector. The resident care department will use these pathways to improve care quality, enhance resident and family centered care, support regulatory compliance, and reduce risk of errors.

This is an exciting new approach to Resident Focused Centered Care and the IOOF is driven to continue as a leader in long-term care for the Barrie community.

This work is part of the BPSO Designation Program, funded by the Government of Ontario. For more information about the RNAO BPSO Program please visit RNAO.ca.
