Our History
Situated on two campuses in Barrie, The IOOF is home to more than six hundred residents.
In 1940, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (I.O.O.F) moved its 40-bed home from Toronto to Barrie. Since then, the Barrie long-term care home has evolved through several expansions. It increased its capacity to eighty beds in 1956 and added recreational space in 1966.
On October 15th, 1980, the organization became the IOOF Seniors Homes Inc., a respected charitable not-for-profit organization, offering a continuum of services which includes long-term care, convalescent care, assisted living, affordable rental apartments, and independently owned life leased apartments.
Historically, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (I.O.O.F) provided programs and services to care for their residents in Ontario for well over a century.
The Independent Order of Odd Fellows (I.O.O.F) continues to maintain an ongoing
interest and involvement in the organization, by implementing fundraising initiatives and serving on the Board of Directors.
To honour the historical contribution of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, the Home still bears the Odd Fellows name, and the present corporation is still known as the IOOF Seniors Homes Inc.
