IOOF Seniors Homes receives transformational $200,000 redevelopment donation from Whitby Triple Links Unity Club
The IOOF Seniors Homes received a transformational gift of $200,000 from the Whitby Triple Links Unity Club for their long-term care redevelopment campaign. The IOOF has embarked on a historical redevelopment project to expand their long-term care facility located at 10 Brooks Street in Barrie. The project will create sixty-four new long-term care beds and sixty-six upgraded beds and when completed the long-term care home will be a 226-bed facility.
As a not-for-profit long-term care home, the IOOF is eligible for capital construction funding from the Ministry of Long-Term Care to supplement redevelopment costs. The IOOF has submitted construction drawings to the Ministry and received approval, with the hopes to begin construction in the coming months. The project will be completed in two phases and is expected to conclude by early 2027 to welcome new residents to the long-term care home.
“We are tremendously thankful to the Whitby Triple Links Unity Club for their contribution to the IOOF and for their commitment to helping build the future of long-term care. With the Ministry of Long-Term Care’s support and donations from generous IOOF Lodges like the Whitby Triple Links, we can move forward with our expansion project that is going to leave a legacy for seniors’ healthcare in our community,” said Garry Hopkins, CEO, IOOF Seniors Homes.
The Whitby Triple Links Unity Club is a long-time member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Rebekahs Lodges and has been serving Ontario for over 110 years.
“We began by selling $2 tickets in a home lottery to draw a winner that would receive a house in Whitby, Ontario. The proceeds allowed for the purchase of the Lodge’s house in Whitby, where our lodge grew to become a dedicated service club raising funds for multiple local causes for over a century. The IOOF Seniors Homes in Barrie not only bears the name of the I.O.O.F. but has also been a source of pride, and central to support their important work in providing healthcare to seniors,” said Lynda Staples, Grand Matriarch, Grand Ladies Encampment Auxiliary of Ontario, Whitby Triple Links Unity Club.
The IOOF Seniors Homes wishes to express sincere gratitude to the Whitby Triple Links Unity Club for their transformational gift as a naming beneficiary of the newly redeveloped long-term care home once the project is completed.
